The Next Big One

I'm starting a feature in Atlanta in September. It'll be great to be working at home again and I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of old friends. As a prelude, I'm driving cross-country from California to Atlanta (the car I had in California finally gave up the ghost and I had to bring my truck from Georgia out here, meaning I've got to drive it back since I'll be there for a while). I think I'm going to take I-40 instead of I-10 (nothing is more depressing than 2 days across Texas alone). Anyone got any good things to see on that route? I might stop by Tombstone but don't really know of anything else. Give me some ideas.

The petrified forest is a cool place to stop. It's after Sun Valley, AZ. Also, there's the indian casino in NM, called Sky City Casino, hands down the BEST burgers. No liquor though, which sucks. But the rooms were extremely clean. As for Texas--nothing comes to mind. I'll be doing the drive as well but going to DC metro.

Hey D, as I said earlier, I will be in Atlanta in December. My dates - flying into Atlanta on the 3rd and out on the 16th. Any chance you will be there at the time?

If I was making that drive, I'd find a way to stop by Meteor Crater and take a good long look. Nothing re-boots one's perspective on life quite like contemplating the raw power of the natural world, including the impact of objects from beyond our pale blue sky.

Monument Valley is another good one -- all those stunning vistas from the great westerns of the fifties.

Good luck on the show, and do keep us posted...

Thanks all.
gripworks- I'm going to try and be out there during that time. My show ends mid November, but I'm there every so often anyway. It would be great to get together.

Shameless plug: Have dinner at Tierra Restaurant in Atlanta. Tell the owners, Dan and Ticha, Wick sent ya. They're good friends of mine. The food is South & Central American, and it's good - they were named best restaurant in Atlanta this year. They're next to Piedmont Park (near the Driving Club, D.)

Wish I could help, but I've never been down that road. Good luck and be safe and I'll see ya when you get here....
